Lan Bi (毕兰) has been working in the field of intellectual property since 2013. Her main areas of practice include patent litigation in the telecommunications sector and video and audio coding technology. Through extensive professional experience and technical training, she has gained in-depth knowledge in the technical areas of telecommunications, video and audio coding, information technology, cloud computing, software, electronics and optical technologies.

Lan has actively participated in patent litigation, nullity proceedings and opposition proceedings before the German Federal Patent Court (Bundespatentgericht – BPatG), the Federal Court of Justice (Bundesgerichtshof – BGH) as well as the European Patent Office (EPO). Her strengths include developing convincing lines of argumentation for various proceedings by taking full advantage of her extensive working experience and her educational background in both technology and intellectual property law. She is adept at digging into the technical details of the case in order to find compelling arguments for the benefits of the clients.
Lan joined BDPE in March 2021. Prior to this, she worked at the law firm Boehmert & Boehmert in Germany as well as a large telecommunication company in China. Her practice involved drafting and prosecution of national and international (e.g., EP and PCT) patent applications in the field of telecommunications, information technology, cloud computing, video and audio coding and software, patent portfolio management and assistance of invalidity and infringement matters. Since January 2015, she has been qualified as a Chinese patent attorney.
Lan studied optical engineering at Beihang University (BUAA) with a focus on signal processing and close-loop control system design for optical sensors. She obtained a Master of Engineering degree from BUAA.
She also studied intellectual property and competition law and obtain a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from Munich Intellectual Property Law Center (MIPLC) at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition in collaboration with the Technical University of Munich (TUM), University of Augsburg, and George Washington University Law School (Washington, D.C.).
Furthermore, she holds Bachelor of Engineering (B. Eng.) in control technology and instrument from East China Jiaotong University and Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) with a focus on intellectual property law from East China Jiaotong University.
