Dr. Rolf Lechner has been working in the field of intellectual property since 2019. Due to his professional experience and technical training, he has in-depth knowledge in the fields of information technology, mechanical engineering, automotive engineering and medical technology. At BDPE, he specializes in patent disputes.

Prior to joining BDPE, he focused on opposition proceedings and conducting prosecution as well as drafting patent applications before the European Patent Office and the German Patent and Trademark Office.
Rolf studied mechanical engineering at Imperial College London (MEng). His mechanical engineering studies included lectures on mechatronics, automotive engineering and fracture mechanics. After graduating, he studied industrial engineering at Technical University of Munich (MSc). During his studies at the Technical University of Munich, he focused, among other things, on electricity market design in Germany and the economic potential of photovoltaic systems in Germany. He completed his doctorate at the Graz University of Technology (Dr. techn.) in close co-operation with BMW in the field of passive vehicle safety.
Prior to his work in intellectual property, Rolf gained practical experience in various companies, including BMW in Munich (DE), CERN in Geneva (CH), Bertrandt in Munich (DE) and KUKA in Augsburg (DE).
Rolf is a member of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI), the Institute of Professional Representatives before the European Patent Office (epi), the Federal Association of German Patent Attorneys (BDPA) and the International Federation of Industrial Property Attorneys (FICPI).
